He may be crooning to an “it girl” in the song, but in Pharrell Williams’ latest video the “it factor” is all about him.
Using a mix of manga and 64-bit video game styles, Williams and artist Takashi Murakami, with Japanese designer Mr. Fantasista Utamaro on board as a producer, create a little paradise incorporating layering, a familiar manga color palette and a mish-mash of styles.

There is, in fact, a blonde “it girl” at the center of Williams’ animated attention, but the viewer is mostly treated to a large amount of screen time for animated Pharrell and his animated Vivienne Westwood hat. Like, to the extent that he features in the center of a revised Mount Rushmore, along side the animators of the clip.
